Learning outcomes

After this chapter, you should be able to:

  1. Keep last week's successful mailbox restore inside the week it was logged.
  2. Leave the next month's restore line blank until that month has its own result.
  3. Refuse a test that writes over the live mailbox.

11.1 The routine starts after the session

The change log already contains two results for the separate email-and-files backup: the mailbox restore that failed because the first full copy had not finished, and the successful attempt a week later. Both belong to that effort. At the last session Sofia set a monthly routine that includes one restore test. The routine describes the months that follow the session. It does not rewrite last week's success as if it were every future month.

The next month's line names the copy, the date, the person who watched, and whether the restore into a test area worked. A failure is still a filled line. A blank is not a pass. Restoring on top of the live mailbox would put the clinic's mail at risk in order to decorate the routine, so that action is refused.

11.2 Worked example

Lesson table; scroll horizontally to read all columns →

Claim about the routine Evidence Decision
"We already passed a mailbox restore." Logged during the course, into a test area Keep it as that week's result
"So next month's box can be ticked now." No line dated in the new month Leave the box blank
"The provider keeps 30 days, so the email test is unnecessary." Those 30 days are the practice system The email-and-files copy is a different backup
"Restore the live mailbox so the test feels real." The earlier tests used a test area Refuse

Synthetic case. The next month's result is not invented. The blank stays blank.

Errors and limits

Filling the line does not rerun the sharing count, and it does not print the client list from Chapter 10. A green dashboard glyph was already rejected in Chapter 4 as a substitute for a restore. This chapter does not repeat that test.

Apply

  • EX065 — Whose month is the success? The log shows a failed mailbox restore and a successful one a week later, both during the course. The next calendar month has started. The routine sheet has an empty restore row. May last week's success fill it, and where must the next attempt land?
    Show marking criteria
Rubric: 3 = last week's success stays in that week; the new row stays empty until its own dated result; the attempt lands in a test area, not on the live mailbox;; 2 = keep the row empty and name the test area;; 1 = one of those;; 0 = none.
Worked answers

EX065. Last week's successful restore stays in that week. The new month's row stays empty until that month has its own dated result. The next attempt is restored into a test area, not onto the live mailbox.
