Learning outcomes
After this chapter, you should be able to:
- Keep Friday's proposal to disable every link outside the agreement already on file.
- Refuse to apply that proposal without a new written agreement from Dr. Moss.
- Leave the published share count unchanged, because no new export is run.
17.1 A permission is not a standing licence to go further
Dr. Moss agreed, in writing, to the changes Chapter 2 carried out: new shares default to clinic-only, the eight client files and four finance files come off open links, and the marketing images may stay because they were already public. On Friday the technician offers to switch off every remaining link before the weekend, including those images. The offer is tidier than the agreement. Tidiness is not consent. The ground rule still requires Dr. Moss's written agreement before a setting change. The earlier page does not mention a Friday shutdown of marketing.
Sofia asks the technician to leave the links as they are. If Dr. Moss later writes a wider change, that line states what may be turned off, and a later export is a new count, as Chapter 7 required. This lesson neither closes the marketing files nor edits the seed-2 script.
17.2 Worked example
Lesson table; scroll horizontally to read all columns →
| Friday proposal | Covered by the existing agreement? | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Turn off the links that were already closed | Already done | No further action |
| Turn off marketing because open links feel untidy | Marketing was allowed to remain | Wait for a new written line |
| Edit the lab so the print looks smaller tonight | The script counts an export | Refuse |
| Dr. Moss writes which folders may lose their links | A new agreement | Only then, and only those folders |
Synthetic case. The seed-2 line stays the last counted total. No second total is printed.
Errors and limits
Leaving marketing open is not a finding that every file in that folder is harmless forever. A later monthly check can still notice a clinical image in the wrong folder, which is the photograph case in Chapter 1. Noticing one wrong file is not the same act as Friday's blanket shutdown.
Apply
- EX071 — Does Friday fit the old page? The technician wants every remaining share link off before the weekend, including marketing. The written agreement covers clinic-only defaults and the twelve closed files. Marketing was left open on purpose. What do you hold, and what count do you refuse to invent?
Show marking criteria
Rubric: 3 = hold the blanket shutdown until Dr. Moss writes a new agreement; do not treat the old page as that agreement; do not invent a new open-file total;; 2 = hold the shutdown and keep the old count;; 1 = one of those;; 0 = none.
