Chapter 13 — Yesterday's naming does not bind today

Lesson map

Lesson 13 published. Map, example, EX029.

The old naming is a record of a finished sitting. It is not a permit for the next one.

Logical drawing

folder still holds the 11:40 page
yesterday: owner named it, for that exercise
today 09:12: booking view described as unavailable
today's owner: has not named a source
        |
+-- yesterday's "taken" answer stays in yesterday's note
        +-- today's Room 2 at 15:00 is pending
+-- do not announce taken or free from the old page

Learning outcomes

After this chapter, you should be able to:

  1. Separate a finished exercise's named page from a later outage.
  2. Leave today's room request pending when today's owner has not named a source.
  3. Keep yesterday's conclusion in yesterday's note.

13.1 A naming has a sitting attached

The 11:40 page remains in the exercise folder. Its rows have not been edited. What ended is the sentence that made it the source. That sentence was limited to the sitting in which it was spoken. A new morning, with the booking view described as unavailable at 09:12, is a new decision. The classmate who says "the gates already passed" is quoting a closed exercise.

Until the owner of today's exercise names a source for today, staff have no page they are allowed to read as current. They do not borrow yesterday's speech. They do not tell a resident that Room 2 at 15:00 is taken, and they do not tell the resident it is free. The request is pending. The Chapter 4 census is not a participant in this morning, so it stays printed as it was.

13.2 Worked example

What the classmate relies on What is actually dated Decision
"Both checks passed yesterday." Those checks belong to the earlier sitting Do not reuse them
"The 11:40 page is still in the folder." Possession is not today's naming Leave it filed
"Say Room 2 at 15:00 is taken, as before." No source has been named today Pending
"The 09:00 tally can be cleared because a later page once existed." The tally describes the old log Leave the line

The morning note records 09:12, Room 2, start 15:00, state pending, and the reason "no source named for today." It does not copy a resident's name, and it does not explain the outage.

13.3 What this limit does not deny

The earlier page is still a real sheet of the earlier exercise. Filing it is allowed. Reading it as today's authority is not. A later sentence, spoken by today's owner about a named object, would open a different lesson. This chapter does not supply that sentence.

Chapter 13 summary

A page that was named yesterday answers yesterday. Today's outage waits for today's naming. Until that sentence exists, the room request is pending and the old census stays put.

Worked answers

EX029 — Worked result

The naming the classmate cites belonged to the earlier sitting. Today's owner has not named a source for the 09:12 outage. Today's Room 2 at 15:00 request stays pending. The 11:40 page remains filed as an earlier sheet. The Chapter 4 census is not rerun.
