Learning outcomes

After this chapter, you should be able to:

  1. Describe the meeting as an explanation of the signed page.
  2. Refuse a vote that would collect birthdays again.
  3. Leave Chapter 5's open line undated until a real meeting is written down.

17.1 What the room may do

Chapter 5 kept the staff-meeting line because the notebook has no date for the explanation. This chapter says what that meeting is for, on the day it is actually held. Kwame reads the signed page: who is accountable, which fields the sheet keeps, where allergy notes live, and which channel carries rotas and shift swaps. People may ask what a line means. They may not put a birthday back by agreeing among themselves. Only a new signature from Mrs. Adeyemi, naming a person and a period, could add that field. She does not sign one here. Teaching this limit also does not fill Chapter 5 with a calendar date. The fifth action closes when the notebook dates an explanation that was given, and that date is a record of the explanation, not a change to the rules. The meeting does not enrol anyone on the next course.

Lesson table; scroll horizontally to read all columns →

What happens in the room Effect on the signed page Decision
Kwame reads the page and answers questions Staff hear the rules That is the explanation
"Everyone voted to collect birthdays again." No new signature The field stays off the sheet
Mrs. Adeyemi signs a new line, with a person and a period A real amendment Not done in this lesson
"Write today's date so Chapter 5 looks finished." A date for a meeting this lesson did not hold Leave the line open

Synthetic case. No calendar date is inserted into the fifth action.

Errors and limits

A dated explanation, once it exists, finishes the fifth action. It does not reopen the four actions that already have dates, and it does not decide the privacy questions the next course is for. Ms. Fischer's suggestion stays a suggestion.

Worked answers

EX071. The meeting explains the signed page. A vote does not add birthdays. Only Mrs. Adeyemi's new signature, with a person and a period, could add the field.
