Day 37 — Enforce mandatory isolated gates without averaging away an audit failure

Learning task. Evaluate recovery as a conjunction of mandatory criteria and preserve the difference between failed, unknown and passed. Agree the gate before examining the result: owner-target values; manual and scheduled service behavior; useful new actor/request audit; preserved original evidence; and a known rollback checkpoint/owner. A test score can summarize what was inspected, but cannot compensate for a failed mandatory gate. Missing evidence does not become a pass because another row looks healthy.

C27 at 10:16 supplies the first isolated candidate: S42 open, S40/S41 still reserved, manual enrollment works, but an alternate API-route audit record has a blank actor. Data correctness and manual function do not neutralize this audit failure. A record without the required actor can make a later incident harder to investigate; the present failure is against the declared classroom criterion, not proof that a malicious actor exploited the route. Keep the test result, query/source pointers actually supplied and the correction request. Do not fill the blank from the shared account name or a nearby session label.

Worked gate ledger. At C27, data is passing in the supplied isolated result. The manual subtest passes; scheduled-route success is not established. Audit is FAIL. Do not invent a completed preservation/rollback receipt from the C27 card: the separate §8.11 fixture declares rollback=1 as a modeling premise. The known audit failure is sufficient for NO-GO, regardless of the unresolved rows. If a reviewer asks for the “first failed criterion,” name the third criterion, audit; do not convert the earlier service-coverage UNKNOWN into a fabricated failed scheduled job. Unknown and failed can both block release while meaning different things.

Then release C28 at 10:20. The application owner adjusts the audit mapping in isolation, reruns synthetic manual and scheduled tests, obtains target slot values and new actor/request fields, and identifies a rollback copy. The supplied chapter reports an isolated gate pass. Record that result while retaining the absence of raw implementation detail in this public case: no digest, operator signature or production receipt should be invented to make the worksheet look fuller. C28 does not repair historical C05/C09 acquisition gaps or retrospectively make C27 pass. Append the new candidate/result version.

Contrast. “Four checks passed, so approve the remaining audit gap” changes the preannounced contract after seeing its failure. “C28 passed, therefore production is deployed” crosses an environment and authority boundary. A defensible review says C27 failed, C28's revised isolated candidate passed its supplied local gate, and a production change remains pending. If the owner elects to change a mandatory criterion in a real case, preserve the original failure and separately document the revised scope, rationale and acceptance; never rewrite the original test.

Offline practice. Reproduce §8.11's four lines, ending C8 C27 NO-GO and C8 C28 GO. Its dictionaries contain declared truthy values and scheduled=None for C27; the code does not inspect actual audit content or authenticate a receipt. In separate adverse runs, set each C28 gate to 0, then to None; every such mutation must refuse GO. Keep the unmodified transcript alongside the variants. Explain that the GO label means this isolated fixture gate, not production permission or incident closure.

Limits and decision. Both real-card claims and fixture assumptions need visible provenance. Complete EX037, then read its worked answer. The next task is to design version-safe reconciliation and reversal, not to promote an isolated result into a live action.

Exercise for this lesson

EX037 — Acceptance gates. Objective: enforce mandatory isolated criteria while distinguishing FAIL from UNKNOWN. Inputs: C27/C28 through 10:20, §8.4/§8.11 and Day 37. Score the five operational criteria using supplied case evidence, retaining manual versus scheduled subchecks and any missing preservation/rollback detail; distinguish §8.11's declared rollback flag. Name C27's definite failed criterion and record its NO-GO, then C28's revised isolated pass. Reproduce §8.11 and separately inject a false and unknown value into each C28 fixture gate. No fixture flag creates production authority or repairs historical provenance. Rubric: 0 = audit failure averaged away or production invented; 1 = correct decisions but conflated unknown/failed/source assumptions; 2 = source-qualified ledger, exact output, all adverse gate refusals and preserved C27 failure. Worked answers

EX037 — Model gate scores. Use pass/fail, not a post hoc average. C27 passes the stated slot values and tested manual function; scheduled-route success and detailed preservation/rollback receipts are not supplied by its card. The separate §8.11 fixture declares rollback present, which is a modeling premise rather than an extra C27 receipt. C27 definitely fails criterion 3, because the alternate API route's new audit actor field is blank. Its isolated release decision is no-go, with evidence preserved and an application-owner correction requested. C28 repeats the isolated check after an audit-mapping change; the supplied card reports target data, manual and scheduled routes, actor/request fields and rollback copy present. Its decision is isolated candidate pass, not production acceptance. C29's separate approval and result are still needed. A learner who assigns unobserved checks as passes or says an average is “good enough” has silently weakened the preannounced gate. C28's reported isolated pass is retained without fabricating raw receipt details; no missing public metadata should be invented.

Additional professional worked reasoning: C27's data and manual tests cannot compensate for a blank actor in the alternative route; with the scheduled-route test not established, its five-part isolated gate is NO-GO. C28 is a separate corrected isolated pass, not production approval. In C8X C27 returns NO_EXECUTION_RECEIPT because the second contract additionally requires production action; that first-failure label does not erase the independently observed C27 audit failure.

Week 8 Day 37 — worked mandatory-gate ledger. Criterion 1, data: C27 supplied values pass. Criterion 2, service: manual passes; scheduled is not established. Criterion 3, audit: FAIL because actor is blank on the alternate API record; that alone mandates NO-GO. Criterion 4, preservation: do not invent an extra C27 receipt. Criterion 5, rollback: the §8.11 input supplies a true fixture flag, while C27's card does not independently describe that artifact/owner receipt. C28's narrative supplies a corrected isolated pass, with target values, both routes, new audit fields and rollback copy; retain that supplied result and request raw details rather than manufacturing them. The original fixture prints snapshot mismatch S40,S41; current mismatch S42; C27 NO-GO; C28 GO. In separate mutations, each C28 flag set to 0 or None must produce NO-GO. The first definite failed C27 criterion remains audit; unknown scheduled behavior is not a fabricated scheduled failure. C8X's no-production-receipt label never cancels the audit observation.
