Learning outcomes

After this chapter, you should be able to:

  1. Keep the thirty-day overwrite as the period already found.
  2. Treat a longer keep, aimed at one employee, as a new purpose about a data subject.
  3. Refuse to change the recorder, because settings changes are outside the signed scope.

16.1 The camera already has a period. Watching a colleague is a new use.

CCTV at the counter is overwritten after thirty days. The owner wants one week's images kept beyond that so the shop can judge how fast one employee works. The images identify a person at work. Staff are data subjects, which Chapter 2 already recorded. A longer keep for that judgment is not the purpose for which the thirty-day period was found. Sofia does not extend the recorder. Changing settings is one of the exclusions on the signed page. She also does not write an opinion of the employee's speed into the review log. If the owner wants that new purpose, it needs its own basis before anyone keeps the images longer. The basis row for that judgment stays absent from her table.

Request Against which rule Decision
Leave the overwrite at thirty days The period already found Accept
Keep one employee's week past thirty days A new purpose about a staff member Refuse
Sofia changes the recorder setting tonight Scope excludes changing settings Refuse
"Note that this person is slow." An opinion about an individual Do not write it

Synthetic case. The employee is unnamed. No speed and no extra days are entered.

Errors and limits

Refusing the extension does not switch the cameras off. They keep the thirty-day cycle already in the file. This chapter is not an employment ruling.

Worked answers

EX070. The overwrite stays thirty days. The longer keep is a new purpose about a staff data subject. She does not change settings. She writes no opinion and no name.
