F["Supplier form adds a phone box"] --> S{"Is a phone on the signed page?"}
S -->|No| N["Collect none"]
S -->|Only after a new signature| W["That signature is not written here"]
A supplier's box is not Copperleaf's rule.
Logical drawing
signed page: first name and email
dropped earlier: phone, birthday, home address
supplier form: phone, "to improve delivery"
|
+-- the form is not Mrs. Adeyemi's signature
+-- no telephone number is written in this lesson
+-- a later phone rule would need a person and a period
Learning outcomes
After this chapter, you should be able to:
- Collect no phone while the signed page lists first name and email only.
- Tell a supplier's form apart from that page.
- State what a later phone rule would still need, without signing it here.
15.1 The page already chose the fields
The shorter sheet keeps a first name and an email. Phone, birthday and home address were dropped on purpose. The newsletter supplier then sends a revised form with a phone box, "so delivery can be improved." Improving delivery is the supplier's reason, not a change Mrs. Adeyemi has signed. Kwame leaves the box empty. He does not copy a number from an old sheet, and he does not invent one. A later decision to collect phones would need her new signature, a named person and a period. None of those three is written in this lesson.
15.2 Worked example
Lesson table; scroll horizontally to read all columns →
| What arrives | Authority it has | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| A phone box on the supplier's form | The supplier's layout | Collect no phone |
| "Customers expect us to call." | An expectation, not the page | Still collect none |
| An old sheet that once had numbers | A field the new page dropped | Do not copy the numbers across |
| Mrs. Adeyemi's new signature, a named person and a period | The rule for adding a field | Not signed in this lesson |
Synthetic case. No telephone number appears in the case. Do not add one.
Errors and limits
Refusing the box is a decision under the signed page. It is not a finding that a statute was broken, and it is not legal advice. Chapter 19 still applies: a phone scribbled later onto an undated copy does not enter the send list either.
Apply
- EX069 — Whose box is the phone? The newsletter supplier's form adds a phone box "to improve delivery." The signed page still lists first name and email only. What is collected, and what would a later phone rule still need?
Show marking criteria
Rubric: 3 = collect no phone; the supplier form is not the signed page; a later rule needs Mrs. Adeyemi's signature, a named person, and a period;; 2 = collect none, and name the signature the later rule needs;; 1 = one of those;; 0 = none.
