flowchart TD
  A["Last year the renewal failed silently"] --> B["The certificate expired"]
  B --> C{"Is a warning dated this course?"}
  C -->|No| D["Keep the advice, not a new incident"]
  C -->|Yes| E["That date is not in the file"]

The old outage explains the calendar. It does not open a fresh incident.

Logical drawing

last year
    host renewal failed silently
    certificate expired
    browsers showed warnings
    cause is not an intrusion
this course
    advice: do not click through
    no dated warning in the file

Learning outcomes

After this chapter, you should be able to:

  1. Keep last year's cause as a silent renewal failure.
  2. Keep the click-through ban.
  3. Leave this course without a dated warning.

13.1 An expired certificate and a rule are not the same event.

Chapter 3 says the library website showed warnings last year because the web host's automatic renewal failed silently and the certificate expired. The exercise that asks about that outage rejects "hacked" as the cause. The staff summary's third finding is advice: do not click through certificate warnings. No sentence dates a warning during Leo's month, names a browser, or says he saw one. A classmate who files "warning, this week" has moved last year into the current notes. A classmate who clicks through "because it happened before and was only expiry" breaks the rule Inês gave for a site that should be trusted. Leo keeps the historical cause and the present advice in separate lines.

13.2 Worked example

Lesson table; scroll horizontally to read all columns →

What someone cites What the file holds Decision
Silent renewal failure Last year's cause Keep the cause
"Hacked" Rejected by the earlier exercise Keep it rejected
Do not click through The standing rule Keep the rule
A warning dated this course Not in the file Refuse

Synthetic case. No browser name and no new warning date are added.

Errors and limits

Separating the year from the rule does not make either one unimportant.

Worked answers

EX059. No warning is dated in this course. Last year's cause stays a silent renewal failure, not an intrusion. The ban on clicking through stays. Do not invent a date.
