Learning outcomes
You will (1) write the bachelor's thesis; (2) present findings clearly; (3) reflect on learning and next steps.
40.1 The thesis
Elena's thesis tells the story of her project: Greenhill's situation, the problems found, the methods designed, the tests, the capstone changes and the evaluation. Each chapter has a clear purpose and links to evidence in appendices. She states findings plainly, discusses limits honestly and makes recommendations for Greenhill's next steps, including the tenant portal and work phones at tablet replacement. Her supervisor reviews drafts, and she revises them in response to comments. Appendices hold test evidence, scripts, the evaluation plan and anonymised feedback summaries, so examiners can check her claims.
40.2 The presentation
Elena presents to examiners and Greenhill's managers in fifteen minutes. She starts with the problem in plain words, shows the five measures before and after with one simple chart, explains what made the biggest difference and states what remains. She answers questions with evidence, such as the leaver counts when asked about small samples. Managers appreciate that she explains both successes and limits, and the IT lead asks to keep using her monthly routine. Slides are shared with attendees afterwards.
40.3 Reflection
In her reflection, Elena notes that the hardest parts were not technical but human: getting timely HR dates, supporting nervous operatives and agreeing changes with finance. She learned to measure before acting, to test safely and to report honestly. Her next step is a job in an IT team, where she plans to apply the same habits. She leaves Greenhill with documentation, routines and evidence, so the improvements continue after her placement ends. She thanks the Greenhill staff who helped, and offers to answer questions during the first months after she leaves.
Worked example
Elena's thesis and fifteen-minute presentation report five improved measures, limits and recommendations; Greenhill adopts her monthly routine.
Synthetic case. The thesis, presentation and outcomes are synthetic.
Errors and limits
Presenting only successes without limits reduces trust from managers and examiners.
Exercises
- EX118 — Presentation chart. What does Elena's one simple chart show? Rubric: 3 = five measures before and after;; 2 = measures;; 1 = costs;; 0 = none.
- EX119 — Hardest parts. What did Elena find hardest? Rubric: 3 = human parts: HR dates, nervous users, agreeing with finance;; 2 = people;; 1 = coding;; 0 = none.
- EX120 — Lasting asset. What did Greenhill ask to keep using? Rubric: 3 = Elena's monthly routine;; 2 = routine;; 1 = laptop;; 0 = none.
Synthesis
A clear thesis, honest presentation and thoughtful reflection complete the bachelor's journey.
