Chapter 1 gap
    third-party integrations: no confirmed inventory
named suppliers of components
web host, identity provider, email relay
refused purchase
    Calder Systems platform, not adopted
        |
        +-- do not write 0
+-- do not add a fourth firm
+-- do not treat Calder's brochure as a live integration

Learning outcomes

After this chapter, you should be able to:

  1. Leave the integration inventory unconfirmed.
  2. Keep the three named suppliers as component facts, not as a finished census.
  3. Leave the refused Calder platform off the live list.

11.1 Absence of a list is not a list of absences

Northstar has no confirmed inventory of third-party integrations. The dependency work did name three suppliers that run components: the web host, the identity provider and the email relay. A classmate writes "integrations: 0" because a full inventory was never confirmed, then adds Calder Systems because a brochure arrived. Zero would be a census. The file does not contain one. The three suppliers answer a narrower question, which components they run, and they do not close the wider gap. Calder's platform was refused when sentence 2 was still blank. A refused catalogue order is not an integration Northstar operates. The engineer adds no fourth firm and does not inspect any supplier's machines.

11.2 Worked example

Lesson table; scroll horizontally to read all columns →

Entry someone wants What it actually is Decision
"Integrations: 0" A number the file never counted Refuse
Web host, identity provider, email relay Suppliers of named components May stay, as that narrower fact
Calder Systems as a live integration A brochure whose purchase was refused Leave it off
"Log into the supplier and finish the inventory." An inspection the team cannot treat as its check Refuse

Synthetic case. No extra supplier is named. Calder remains the brochure vendor from Chapter 1.

Errors and limits

Keeping the gap open does not mean the three known suppliers are unimportant. It means their names are not a substitute for the missing inventory.

Worked answers

EX065. Refuse 0 and refuse Calder as a live integration. The three names stay suppliers of components and do not close the inventory. Add no fourth firm.
