A lock limits the room. A date would record the shredding.

+-- she still does not sort the box by reading it
+-- the professional period is not invented to choose pages

Learning outcomes

After this chapter, you should be able to:

  1. Keep the lock and the same-day report as facts already in the file.
  2. Treat a missing destruction date as an open line.
  3. Refuse to read or move the copies in order to decide which ones are old.

9.1 The box is still not hers to handle

Sofia found old prescription copies in an unlocked storeroom. She reported the place, the time and what she saw, and she did not move or read them. The owner locked the room and arranged secure shredding of copies past the retention period. A classmate says the action can be ticked because the arrangement was made. The file contains the lock and the arrangement. It does not contain a date on which those copies were destroyed. Sofia leaves that line open. She still does not open the box to guess which copies are past the professional period, because that guess would both read the copies and invent the period Chapter 8 left alone.

9.2 Worked example

Lesson table; scroll horizontally to read all columns →

Sentence in the log What it proves Decision
Place, time and what she saw The report Keep it
The room is locked Access after the finding Keep it
"Shredding has been arranged." A plan to destroy Not a destruction date
"I read a few to see which are old." Handling the copies Refuse

Synthetic case. No destruction date is written into the log by this lesson.

Errors and limits

An open shredding line does not mean the room should be unlocked. The lock stays. This chapter does not decide that a breach notice was or was not required.

Worked answers

EX063. The destruction date is open. The arrangement is not that date. She does not move or read the copies. She does not invent which copies are past the professional period.
