## Chapter 17 — Two refusals are outside both prints

<!-- open-cyber-academy:lesson-figures:start ch-17 -->
### Lesson map

Lesson 17. Map, example, EX063.

```mermaid
flowchart TD
  B["Classmate's blog"] --> R["Refused"]
  C["Clinic server note"] --> M["Removed"]
  R --> P["Neither string is in the labs"]
  M --> P
```

The packet records two nos. The scripts never see those targets.

### Logical drawing

```text
scope print
  four documentation addresses
rank print
  F1 F3 F4 F2
packet notes
  blog refused
  clinic note removed
```

### Learning outcomes

After this chapter, you should be able to:

1. Name the two things Maya turns away.
2. Say why neither one is a row in the scope print.
3. Refuse a page that adds either target to `requested`.

### 17.1 The blog and the clinic are notes. They are not elements of either list.

A classmate, who is not given a name in this book, asks Maya to put a personal blog on the target list. She refuses. A draft finding mentions a medical clinic server that is not a college system. She takes that note out. Both decisions go into the packet her manager reviews. The classmate's name, the blog's name, and the clinic's name are not in the file, and this chapter does not invent them.

`requested` holds four addresses. None of them is a blog. `findings` holds F1 through F4. None of them is a clinic. Pressure does not append a fifth string. Listing the clinic "just as a note" would still put another owner's system into the college packet as if it were a target. The recorded act is removal, not a new scope line.

| Item | In `requested`? | In `findings`? | What Maya records |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal blog | No | No | Refusal |
| Clinic server | No | No | Removal of the note |
| `192.0.2.5` | Yes | No | The scope line |
| F3 | No | Yes | The rank line |

### 17.2 Worked example

| Offered addition | In either script? | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| "Two refusals sit in the packet, beside the prints." | The prints stay four and four | Keep |
| "Add the blog as `198.51.100.7`." | That address is already a different row | Refuse |
| "The clinic is F2." | F2 is the banner tuple | Refuse |

> **Synthetic case.** The classmate stays unnamed. The clinic stays an out-of-scope note.

### Errors and limits

Do not invent a blog host name or a clinic address and call it lab output.

### Apply

- **EX063 — Two nos.** What does Maya refuse, what does she remove, and which script prints either one? *Rubric:* 3 = she refuses the unnamed classmate's blog and removes the clinic note; neither item is in `requested` or `findings`; neither script prints it;; 2 = both decisions stay outside the two prints;; 1 = one decision;; 0 = none.

## Worked answers

<a id="answer-ex063"></a>
**EX063.** She refuses the unnamed classmate's blog and removes the clinic note. Neither item is in the two lists, and neither script prints it.
