The fraction is a count of these seven lines, once.

Logical drawing

FIX admin password changed from default
PASS Wi-Fi uses WPA2 or WPA3
PASS guest network enabled
FIX guest isolated from business devices
FIX remote administration off
FIX firmware updated within 180 days
FIX UPnP off
2 of 7 pass

Learning outcomes

After this chapter, you should be able to:

  1. Name the two passing lines.
  2. Keep the five FIX lines in the before reading.
  3. Refuse to treat the fraction as an average or as the later narrative.

13.1 The numerator is a count of true predicates, not a grade for the month.

The last line of the router run is 2 of 7 pass. The seven are the seven tuples in the script, in the order printed. Exactly two predicates are true: the Wi-Fi mode is one of the two accepted strings, and guest_network is true. The other five print FIX: the administrator password has not been changed from the default, guest isolation is off, remote administration is on, the firmware age is not within 180 days, and UPnP is on. A sentence that moves any of those five into the before set contradicts the tuples. A sentence that calls 2 an average across months invents months. The file contains one evaluation.

Chapter 4 then orders the work: password first, because it controls the other settings; then isolation and remote administration; then firmware and UPnP. That order is a decision list. It is not a claim that the flags have already flipped. The same chapter later says the checklist was considered again and that seven of seven passed. "Again" is the important word. The second reading is narrative. It is not this print, and this print is not rewritten to match it. Quoting both is accurate. Replacing the first with the second hides the evidence of what changed.

The fraction can also mislead in the other direction. Two of seven does not mean the Wi-Fi mode was weak. That line passed. It does not mean the guest name was missing. That line passed. The work that remains is the five FIX lines, in the order Leo chose, done after closing, one at a time. The score is not a reason to skip the passes or to treat them as unfinished.

13.2 Worked example

Lesson table; scroll horizontally to read all columns →

Sentence Count it implies Decision
"Before: the mode check and the guest-existence check pass." The two true predicates May stay
"Before: five named lines are FIX." The tuples May stay
"Before: isolation already passed." Moves a FIX backward Refuse
"2 of 7 is the monthly average, and it is also the after score." One reading, used twice Refuse

Synthetic case. The decision list is not a second execution of the script.

Errors and limits

A priority order can be wise and still leave the embedded count at two.

Worked answers

EX059. The two passes are the Wi-Fi mode and guest existence. The five FIX lines stay in the before reading. 2 of 7 is one reading, and the later seven stays prose.
