## Chapter 18 — Six staff and one shop stay the size

### Lesson map

Lesson 18. Map, example, EX064.

```mermaid
flowchart TD
  A["One shop, six staff"] --> B["Two rows say all staff"]
  B --> C{"May a note name the six or add a seventh?"}
  C -->|No| D["Leave the headcount and the phrase"]
```

The size of the business is not a list of people.

### Logical drawing

```text
printed size
    one shop
    six staff
user field on two rows
    all staff
not available
    the six names
    a second shop
    a seventh person
    Mia's hours
```

### Learning outcomes

After this chapter, you should be able to:

1. State the shop's size as the book states it.
2. Keep "all staff" where the list says "all staff".
3. Refuse a named roster or a second shop.

### 18.1 Headcount is a boundary. It is not a roll call.

Willow Lane Florist is one shop with six staff, run by its owner, Rosa. Mia works there part-time and is on the rapid course. The account list never spells the six names. Where a row is used by the whole group, the user field says "all staff": the orders mailbox and the social page. Inventing five colleagues, splitting six into Rosa plus six, or adding a second shop because the supplier label says `willowlane` would change the case. Mia's part-time work does not print an hour count and does not add a seventh person. The three former staff are people who had left. They are not a revision of the six. Rosa remains the owner who signs the permission note and the report. Joseph remains the coach at Eastgate Skills Centre, not a member of the shop staff. A leaving note may repeat "six" and "one shop". It may not turn either figure into a roster.

### 18.2 Worked example

Repeat the size. Do not staff it with new people.

| Figure | Meaning | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Six staff, one shop | The business | May stay |
| "all staff" on two rows | The printed user field | May stay |
| Mia works part-time | Her role | Do not convert it into hours or a seventh head |
| A second shop, or six names | Not written | Refuse |

> **Synthetic case.** No staff rota is attached. The shop has no street address in this book.

### Errors and limits

A small number is not an invitation to fill seats. Unnamed people stay an unnamed group.

### Apply

- **EX064 — How big is the shop?** The case says one shop and six staff. A classmate adds a second branch and names the six. What size do you keep, and what do you refuse to write? *Rubric:* 3 = one shop and six staff stay; no second shop; no names for the six; "all staff" stays the user field where the list uses it; part-time does not add a person;; 2 = the size stays and no names are added;; 1 = the size only;; 0 = none.

## Worked answers

**EX064.** One shop and six staff stay. No second shop. No names for the six. "All staff" stays the user field where the list uses it. Part-time does not add a person.
