A check of the pipe is one message. It is not a promise about the message after it.

+-- the test is not the next invoice alert
+-- no later arrival is invented

Learning outcomes

After this chapter, you should be able to:

  1. Keep the test alert as one confirmed arrival.
  2. Leave the treasurer's personal copy in place.
  3. Refuse to treat the test as proof of every later alert.

7.1 The mailbox was added beside the old address, and then tried once

Bank alerts used to go only to the treasurer's personal email. The fix sends them to a shared charity mailbox as well. Ruth confirmed that one test alert reached that mailbox, and she recorded the check. A classmate crosses the personal address off the page and writes that future alerts are solved. The file says "as well as," not "instead of." One arrival does not describe the next real alert from the bank. Ruth does not remove the treasurer's copy, and this lesson invents no second test.

7.2 Worked example

Lesson table; scroll horizontally to read all columns →

Sentence Support in the file Decision
A test alert reached the shared mailbox The check Ruth recorded May stay
The treasurer still receives alerts too "As well as" May stay
"Every later alert will arrive." No later test Refuse
"Delete the personal address." The fix did not say that Refuse

Synthetic case. No second alert is composed. The treasurer stays unnamed.

Errors and limits

Keeping the personal copy does not mean the shared mailbox was unnecessary. It means the file did not replace one destination with the other.

EX053. The one test stands. The personal copy stays. A later alert is not guaranteed. Invent no second test.
